Welcome to the Higher Course at Elgin Academy. Over the year you will be studying three topics:

USA 1918- 1968 looking at attitudes towards Immigration, Obstacles to Civil Rights, the Development of the Civil Rights Movement and a judgement on how effective the Civil Rights Movement was up to 1968.

Britain 1851-1951 studying the development of democracy and in particular the reason why women won the vote; the introduction of the social welfare reforms by the Liberal government (1906-1914) and a judgement about their effectiveness; then assessing the effectiveness of the later Labour Social welfare reforms (1945-51).

Migration and Empire 1830-1939 examining the reasons for Scottish Migration, the impact of the Scots overseas, the impact of immigrants to Scotland and the importance of the Empire on Scotland.
